*Low Income Housing Tax Credit
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) presents $2,880,000 to Archdiocesan Housing for Low-Income Persons with Disabilities.
Denver -On March 4th, 2009 10:30 AM, HUD officially presented a check for $3,084,600 to Archdiocesan Housing, an affiliate of Catholic Charities for the construction of 19 one-bedroom units for very low-income, physically disabled and the chronically mentally ill. The units will be built in Commerce City and were made available under Section 811 - Supportive Housing for persons with disabilities.
The units in the proposed two-story supportive housing will exceed Fair Housing Design Guidelines. The planned facility includes a community room adjacent to the laundry room that facilitates interaction between the residents. Every effort has been made to design a building that accommodates various disabilities both by encouraging maximum independence and providing supportive services, if desired.
"This grant will help very low-income persons with disabilities find decent housing that they can afford," said John Carson, HUD Regional Director.
Josh Russell, Vice President of Archdiocesan Housing added, "These kinds of developments are very important to our community. There is a substantial shortage of affordable housing for the disabled that are built to specifically accommodate their needs. We are thankful to HUD for helping Archdiocesan Housing accomplish our mission."
HUD approved a three-year subsidy contract of $204,600 for residence upon completion of construction.
Occasion: Funding Award for the construction of 19 affordable apartment homes for the disabled.

Plaza del Milagro Receives Special Recognition Award from
USDA Rural Development in Colorado
_______________________________________________________________________________________
GREELEY, CO. -Plaza del Milagro, a 40 unit family farm labor complex in Greeley, was the recipient of a Special Recognition Award from USDA Rural Development last week at the Multi-Family Housing Conference in Colorado Springs. The complex owned by Catholic Charities and Community Services Farm Labor Housing Corp was selected based on their low average vacancy rate, good curb appeal and community outreach. "This complex ideally located in Weld County provides a great service to the community," said M. Dolores Sanchez-Maes, Acting State Director, Colorado Rural Development. "Having a Head Start Day Care on site, a multi-purpose community room with a kitchen, bilingual staff available for assistance, and other service agencies on site offering training throughout the year, truly make this complex award worthy," said Sanchez-Maes.
USDA Rural Development's mission is to deliver programs in a way that will support increasing economic opportunity and improve the quality of life of rural residents. For more information on the Multi-Family Housing program or other rural programs available in Colorado visit
